Passionate film-goers in Stevenage are in for a treat this weekend with a brand new bespoke cinema club where members of the local community can enjoy private showings of a variety of great British movies.

The first ‘Herts and Beds Cinema Club’ meeting is due to take place on Sunday 25 March at 4:30pm in Roaring Meg’s Community Arts Centre. This newly-created, community-focused group will be showing the 2015 historical period drama, Suffragette, and will offer an alternative, more intimate movie experience.

Simon Mortimer, co-founder of the club, said: “There are many film fans in Stevenage who appreciate the independent movie genre, and so by setting up our cinema club we wanted to present smaller British films to the community. It will offer a place where people who share a similar hobby can come together in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

“We will also be providing a platform in which film-goers will be able to discuss themes and topics of each movie shown at the centre.”

Roaring Meg shoppers wishing to see Suffragette can purchase tickets either on the door or by visiting https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/to order them online. Tickets are £4.50 each and refreshments will be available on the night.

Phil Huby of Aberdeen Standard Investments, said: “We’re thrilled that the Herts and Beds Cinema Club has chosen Roaring Meg Community Arts Centre to offer such an entertaining evening. This is a very positive venture, which we thoroughly support and I’m sure it will provide a wonderful communal experience.”

Simon concluded: “We are really looking forward to our first screening and hope to welcome many members of the Stevenage community who are fellow enthusiasts of the big screen.”
